An Outdoor Jewish Wedding in Vermont: Dana & Jason
Early September in Vermont is a truly magical time of year, with the summer’s warmth still gracing the air as the landscape begins its gradual transformation into fall’s brilliant colors. It was on one such sunny September day that we had the honor of hosting Dana and Jason’s beautiful outdoor Jewish wedding celebration at The Barn at Boyden Farm.
Honoring Jewish Wedding Traditions
One of the most meaningful and sacred moments of Dana and Jason’s wedding day was the ceremonial signing of the ketubah. This Jewish marriage contract outlines the responsibilities and commitments the couple is making to one another. This ceremony took place inside the rustic wedding barn, with just the bridal party as an audience. Rabbi David, the officiant for the wedding ceremony, read portions of the ketubah out loud to allow the guests to understand the significance and promises contained within. Afterwards, Dana and Jason and their two witnesses took turns inking their signatures on the decorative document. The beautiful words and calligraphic designs made the ketubah a true work of art.

A Beautiful Outdoor Jewish Wedding Ceremony
As guests began arriving in shuttles from their lodging at Smuggler’s Notch Resort, there was a palpable energy of joy and excitement. The outdoor ceremony space looked absolutely breathtaking, with custom florals from Creative Muse Floral Design decorating the custom door entry way, the post and beam pavilion, and the chuppah beneath which the couple would stand. All of this was beautifully framed by sweeping views of the surrounding mountains. Rabbi David led a beautiful and sacred ceremony, guiding Dana and Jason through all of the traditional Jewish wedding rituals, including sharing a sip of wine and breaking the glass.

Dinner & Dancing in the Wedding Barn
After a lively round of mazel tovs, it was time to kick off the reception in the barn. Our rustic and refined barn wedding venue space had been transformed into a distinctly New York-inspired celebration, perfectly reflecting Dana and Jason’s city roots. From the twinkling lighting to the elegant tablescape designs courtesy of Vermont Tent Company, every detail exuded sophistication and style. As the night continued on, the dance floor became alive with smiling faces celebrating the newlyweds.

Sweet Treats & Sweeter Memories
Taking a break from dancing, Dana and Jason stole away for some breathtaking photos on our picturesque farm property. The soft, golden light of the setting sun cast a romantic glow, highlighting their love and the natural beauty of the surroundings. Dana and Jason then concluded their magical night by delighting their guests with a maple creemee truck, courtesy of Palmer Lane Maple. The sweet treats added a memorable touch to an already enchanting evening, leaving everyone with a taste of Vermont’s finest flavors.

Dana and Jason’s wedding day was the perfect melding of centuries-old customs and contemporary flair, with every moment expertly captured by Blue Locket Photography and Toast Wedding Films. From their traditional Jewish ceremony to the vibrant evening celebration filled with laughter and dancing, the entire day was beautiful blend of tradition, love, and joy. We feel so grateful that our wedding venue was chosen to be a part of such a joyous occasion, and our enduring congratulations to the happy couple!
A Rustic End of September Wedding in Vermont: Emily & Sean
Emily and Sean’s end of September wedding at our farm venue was a picturesque celebration filled with rustic charm and delightful fall touches. From the heartfelt outdoor ceremony at the post and beam pavilion to the lively reception in the barn and patio, every moment was infused with love and joy. With a talented team of vendors contributing their expertise, and a stunning fall color palette of deep pine green and rich orange, the event was a seamless blend of early fall beauty, deliciousness, and unforgettable memories.
Pre-Wedding Lawn Games & Refreshments
Before the ceremony, Sean and his groomsmen shook off pre-wedding jitters with friendly lawn games, including the classic favorite, cornhole. Laughter echoed across the expansive grounds as they competed with good-natured enthusiasm, enjoying the camaraderie and excitement of the day. Meanwhile, guests indulged in refreshing beverages and delectable treats, savoring the serene ambiance and picturesque views that surrounded them. It was a time of fun and anticipation, setting the perfect tone for the heartfelt moments that awaited during Emily and Sean’s beautiful outdoor wedding celebration.

A Perfect End of September Outdoor Wedding
The scenic setting of our post and beam pavilion provided a stunning backdrop for Emily and Sean’s rustic outdoor ceremony – by far the most popular outdoor wedding location at our farm venue, and for a good reason. Surrounding the pavilion were sweeping views of crispy cornfields and mountains alight with the first hint of fall foliage: the perfect backdrop for an end of September wedding. Colorful fall florals adorned guests’ chairs and the birch tree arbor, carefully arranged by the team at Understory Farm. The air was filled with anticipation and excitement as Emily and Sean exchanged vows, with Vermont’s natural beauty adding an ethereal atmosphere to the magical and intimate moment.

Heading Inside for a Barn Wedding Reception
As the ceremony came to a close, guests eagerly made their way to the patio and into our charming barn venue which would serve as the backdrop for the evening’s festivities. The rustic ambiance of the space, with its exposed wooden beams and cozy atmosphere, immediately enveloped everyone in an inviting warmth. The tables were beautifully adorned with fall-inspired decor, adding a touch of seasonal magic that perfectly complemented the barn’s natural beauty. Centerpieces featuring rich autumnal hues and lush floral arrangements from Understory Farm added pops of color and elegance throughout the space.
One of the most unique and memorable features of the reception was the custom vintage Jeep windshield piece created by Christine Roberts Design. Adorned with the message “And so the adventure begins, Emily & Sean, September 30th 2023,” this bespoke installation served as a stunning focal point, capturing the couple’s spirit of adventure and the start of their new journey together.

An Early Fall Evening of Dinner & Dancing
The dinner provided by Woodbelly Pizza & Catering was delicious, offering guests a delectable array of wood-fired pizzas and artisanal fare. Served alongside were beverages expertly prepared by Fluid Bar Service, with Emily and Sean’s signature cocktails taking center stage: Lavender Whiskey Sours and Passion Fruit Daiquiris. In addition to the exceptional catering, the dessert offerings at Emily and Sean’s barn wedding reception were a true delight for the senses. The cake, although petite in size, was the focal point of a larger dessert spread crafted by the talented team at Sweet Vermont Treats. All treats incorporated local flavors like maple, apple, and berry, and perfectly complimented the barn’s rustic elegance with their decor.
As the evening progressed, the interior of the barn came alive with music from Get Down Tonight, turning the evening into a vibrant celebration. As the music played on, Emily and Sean slipped away for a few moments, hand-in-hand, to take a twilight stroll around our property with their photographer, Kristen Phelps. Capturing the soft, glowing light of the fading day, Kristen’s lens immortalized the newlyweds’ tender embrace and the pure, unguarded joy that radiated from them. These intimate moments, shared in the tranquility of the Vermont countryside, allowed Emily and Sean to savor the magic of the day and bask in the beauty of their new chapter together.

As the final notes of the band’s performance faded into the night, the guests were gently ushered onto waiting shuttles, which transported them back to the cozy accommodations of Smuggler’s Notch Resort. There, they could reflect on the magical evening they had just experienced, filled with heartfelt moments, delectable delights, and the infectious energy that had made Emily and Sean’s end of September wedding an unforgettable celebration of love, community, and the beauty of Vermont.
How to Plan Your Perfect Vermont Fall Wedding
Are you dreaming of a romantic, rustic, and picturesque wedding surrounded by the stunning beauty of Vermont’s fall foliage? If so, you’re in the right place! Vermont is renowned for its breathtaking autumn landscapes, making it the ideal destination for a memorable fall wedding. In this guide, we’ll explore everything you need to know to plan the perfect Vermont fall wedding, from the best months to say “I do” to inspiring themes and decor ideas.
What Month is Good for a Fall Wedding in Vermont?
Vermont’s fall foliage season typically spans from late September through mid-October, but the peak of autumn’s splendor can vary from year to year and location to location within the state. So, when is the best time for a fall wedding in Vermont? Let’s take a closer look at the possibilities.
Late September
Late September is when the first hints of autumn color begin to emerge. The landscape transforms into a lush palette of red, orange, and gold. If you’re aiming for a slightly milder climate while still enjoying the essence of fall, late September could be the perfect choice for your Vermont wedding. Keep in mind that the earlier in the month you choose, the more likely you’ll have a green backdrop with just a touch of autumn hues.

Early to Mid-October
For the quintessential Vermont fall wedding experience, early to mid-October is the sweet spot. This is when the foliage reaches its peak vibrancy, and you’ll be treated to an enchanting display of autumn colors. The cool, crisp air and the vibrant leaves will set the stage for a truly magical wedding day.
Late October
If you prefer the cooler weather of late autumn and want to embrace the rustic charm of Vermont’s late fall season, late October is a great choice. While some leaves may have fallen by this time, the landscape will still offer a rustic, cozy atmosphere for your wedding festivities.
Is October the Most Popular Wedding Month in Vermont?
Indeed, October is a highly sought-after month for weddings in Vermont. The stunning fall foliage and pleasant daytime weather make it a top choice for couples looking to tie the knot in the Green Mountain State. However, keep in mind that its popularity means you’ll need to plan well in advance to secure your preferred date and venue.

If you’re open to a more intimate celebration or a unique date, consider late September or early November for your Vermont fall wedding. You’ll still enjoy the beauty of fall while having a greater chance of booking your dream venue.

Choosing a Fall Wedding Venue in Vermont
Choosing the right Vermont fall wedding venue is crucial, and can often be overwhelming with so many wonderful options to pick from. However, there are two things that are absolutely essential to keep in mind during your search.
First, in order to fully appreciate all that Vermont’s fall foliage has to offer, be sure to choose a venue with unobstructed views of the landscape and surrounding mountains. This will be essential for not only the scenic backdrop of your ceremony and reception, but also for your wedding photos.

Second, Vermont’s weather can be fickle to say the least, particularly during the fall months. When selecting a venue, pick one that offers suitable indoor options or covered spaces in case of rain or cold temperatures. We also recommend renting heaters or providing cozy blankets for guests if your wedding and/or reception will be outdoors.
We at The Barn at Boyden Farm proudly provide both of these things, as we offer a picturesque and rustic setting for your special day complete with breathtaking views of Vermont’s fall foliage. Plus, with our fully equipped rustic barn, you’ll never have to worry about inclement weather.

Vermont Outdoor Weddings: The Ultimate Guide
Looking to have an outdoor wedding in Vermont? Not sure where to begin? Not to worry! As an established indoor-outdoor wedding venue in stunning northern Vermont, we understand that planning an outdoor wedding can be quite a daunting task. To help make this process a little easier, we’ve put together a list of benefits, FAQs, and other important factors to consider when choosing an outdoor wedding venue in Vermont.
Benefits of Having an Outdoor Wedding in Vermont
Wedding Venues with Mountain Views
Vermont’s natural skyline provides one-of-a-kind scenery and unrivaled beauty that adds something special to any occasion. It is highly recommended that you choose a Vermont wedding venue with mountain views, as these natural landscapes come together to create a romantic setting that cannot be replicated.

Beautiful Wedding Photos
Vermont offers couples the unique opportunity to take their wedding photos in a picture-perfect outdoor setting, surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges, foliage, and colorful fields of wildflowers. Outdoor ceremonies create lasting memories and provide couples with naturally-lit wedding photos that will look gorgeous for years to come.
More Space for Guests
With an outdoor ceremony or reception, you’ll have much more room for your guests. Without the limitations of an indoor venue, like in many cities, outdoor weddings allow you to have higher guest limits while simultaneously feeling less cramped. Every aspect of an outdoor Vermont ceremony invites you, your guests, and even your photographer to spend time among the flowers, fields, and natural beauty of Vermont’s landscape.
Kid-Friendly Wedding Venue Options
Hosting an outdoor wedding is also a way to easily accommodate young family members and friends. With an outdoor space, they can move around freely in a safe environment without feeling trapped or constrained inside. To add an extra touch of fun to the day, consider choosing a venue that offers activities such as yard games like corn hole or ring toss for guests of all ages to enjoy.

What’s the Best Month to Have an Outdoor Wedding in Vermont?
Now that you’re officially sold on booking an outdoor wedding venue in Vermont, it’s time to start planning. Vermont has four distinct seasons, and each presents a unique and beautiful landscape for outdoor weddings. However, the months of September and October stand out as the best months to have an outdoor wedding in Vermont.
During these months, the foliage is at its peak with dazzling shades of orange, red and yellow mixed with evergreen trees all around. The days are often still comfortably balmy, while temperate nights bring welcome relief from high summer temperatures. September and October offer perfect weather conditions to host outdoor ceremonies in Vermont; couples will be able to enjoy their special day surrounded by unparalleled natural beauty that can only be found this time of year.

However, since early fall is one of the best times to have an outdoor wedding in Vermont, it is also one of the most popular. If you’re considering an outdoor wedding, be sure to book your venue sooner rather than later to avoid excessive competition.
How to Plan an Outdoor Wedding in Vermont
At this point, you may be excitedly envisioning your wedding day: you and your significant other standing before your family and friends ready to declare your love for one another, all while surrounded by the natural beauty of Vermont’s lush green mountains. However, there are still a few key factors to consider when planning your outdoor wedding.
Know What to Do if it Rains on Your Outdoor Wedding Reception
In the case of a rainy outdoor wedding, every outdoor ceremony should have an inclement weather plan. An easy solution to this problem is to look for indoor-outdoor wedding venues. On days that prevent you from celebrating your ceremony outdoors, a rustic wedding barn is a welcome retreat from the outdoor elements – and is much sturdier than a tent. Our property easily allows you to combine the picturesque outdoor natural setting at Boyden Farm with the ambiance of our rustic, historic hayloft barn interior space.

Inform Your Guests of Your Outdoor Wedding Plans
Whether you are having a short outdoor ceremony, extended cocktail hour or are planning to make the most of your venue’s beautiful outdoor area throughout your evening of festivities, it is important to let your guests know these details in advance. You can create a wedding website or include details in the invitation, particularly information about the outdoor ceremony; style of dress for the event such as formal, black tie, or casual; as well as specific shoes to wear for walking around on the venue grounds and dancing the night away on the dance floor.
Know How to Keep Your Guests Comfortable at Your Outdoor Wedding
Perhaps one of the biggest challenges of any outdoor wedding is finding solutions to keep your guests comfortable through temperature changes. In the summertime, it’s exceedingly important that guests have the ability to cool off either in the shade or in an air conditioned space. Our property offers guests a reprieve from the sun beneath our outdoor post and beam ceremony pavilion, as well as a break from the heat within our air conditioned rustic barn.
However, if you are familiar with Vermont’s ever changing weather, even the summer evenings can be rather chilly. To keep guests comfortable throughout the reception, make use of our rustic barn’s heating system during speeches, toasts and dinner. Once you all move to the dance floor, the party continues until the very last song of the evening.

Find Local Vendors with Outdoor Wedding Experience
While searching for wedding vendors, try to look for those with outdoor wedding experience. While anyone can have a successful event indoors, outside weddings tend to have their own unique elements that must be carefully considered by vendors in advance. All of our preferred vendors, from local Vermont wedding caterers to wedding photographers, are experts when it comes to outdoor ceremonies – allowing you to focus on enjoying your special day.
Consider Your Outdoor Wedding Decoration Ideas
There is great flexibility when considering decorations or florals for an outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour, or any other parts of your occasion that will be outdoors. You can opt for simplicity and let the beauty of Vermont’s natural scenery be the focal point, or you can elevate the spaces provided at the venue with elegant decor. If you decide to add an outdoor wedding arch or additional outdoor decor, be certain to take into account any wind or weather for the design of these pieces. A benefit to using florals or decor at the ceremony site is that they can then be repurposed to enhance the rustic elegance of the venue for further enjoyment later on.
